The Vest: How to Work it, Why it's Fab

Vests often go by unappreciated by the fashion world, but what most people don't realize is what amazing layering pieces they can be, Add a vest over ultimately anything: dresses, shirts, sweaters, jackets etc. There are so many different types and styles of vests that you'll probably head to the nearest mall after seeing how undeniably cute some of these looks are.

The Jean Vest, fondly called the "Jest." Yup, it's comin' back. Pair it with an adorable sun dress like the girl above or throw it on over a blouse and a cute girly skirt. Check out the Madewell Jest below, super cute right?

The puffy vest, is comin' back as well! No longer are they reserved for  cold outdoor  ventures, but cute fashionable statements! Throw on one of these with a long sleeved shirt or a sweater like the look above. My personal favorite has to be the J-Crew vest below.

For more complex fashionistas, check out this amazing look done by this style blogger. A belted grey collared vest with a blue striped shirt and white jeans? Genius! Instantly adorable. For a vest similar to this, the Rebecca Minkoff one below is something similar to what you'll be looking for.

One look that often goes unnoticed is the vest with a skirt look. Especially when paired with maxi skirts, a vest can pull an entire outfit together, like the look above. Perfect for Spring time! While this vest is undeniably fab, I couldn't resist adding in the MANGO sequined vest below. Definitely a purchase for the more bold of the fashion word, but totally worth it. Pair this with some skinnies and tee and you're good to go!

2012 EMA's Red Carpet Review

For those of you who don't know, the EMA's stand for MTV's Europe Music Awards show, but incidentally, draws more American stars to the red carpet. Some of America's favorite leading ladies appeared last night in Frankfurt Germany for the event. Hosted by the fabulous Heidi Klum, Sunday nights festivities began with a boom, on the red carpet of course.

America's sweetheart Taylor Swift, in a demure shimmery and sleek J.Mendel gown. Paired with a brown smoky eye, this songstress look a bit more adult than usual, showing off a bit of an edgier side.

Alicia Keyes in a green and black sheer panel Stella McCartney dress. While this  is undoubtedly an interesting dress, there is something missing from this look. Maybe its her hair..? Sorry Alicia, you need a new do.

"Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen in a silver Johanna Johnson gown. While I  love the  pretty and classy look of the dress, a lighter, fresher approach to makeup was needed for this look.
Rita Ora, making an extravagant entrance in this Marchesa dress. This almost makes up for all the hideous body suits you used to wear Rita!
Kim Kardashian in a black train Stephanie Rolland dress. Well look at that, Kim chose a short, black cleavage bearing dress. Are you as surprised as I am?!! Didn't think so.
And last but not even close to least, the fabulous host of the night. Heidi Klum in a leggy custom Versace gown. Perhaps a little too sexy for a music awards show? Maybe not when your're an international super model.

Fashion Friday

There were so many looks this week, It was almost hard to choose! Lets take a look at this weeks fashion wonders and blunders.

Best:

Marion Cotillard at the premiere of her film Rust and Bone in a Dior Mullet gown.  This dress is so different and unique, this french actress pulled it off amazingly well.

Miranda Kerr attending the after party for the Victoria's Secret Fashion show in a sexy black Balmain dress and Jimmy Choo shoes. Why not wear this plunging neckline after spending the night prancing the runway half naked anyways?

Model Karlie Kloss also attending the after party, mixing metallics with her Kaufmanfranco liquid silver sequin dress with gold strappy sandals.

Olivia Munn recovering from her latest fashion missteps in this gorgeous Alice Temperley gold gown at the BAFTA awards. Good to have you on the Best Dressed List Olivia!
Keira Knightley in Valentino at the opening of her newest movie ‘Anna Karenina’. While this look seems to be her go-to red carpet look, its hard not to love because of it's classy elegance.

British style queen Olivia Palermo at the Harvey Nichols Beauty Bazaar Opening  in London looking as stylish as ever.  The white wrap with the leather leggings and bright blue Manolo Blahniks mesh so well together creating a look of effortless style.

Worst:

Singer Neon Hitch at the Cover Girl and Rolling Stones collaboration looking like a trashy Fourth of July stripper. Seriously, would you even wear this in July..?

Usually stylish Kat Graham at the Soul Train Awards in a beaded floral slit dress. We hope this singer/actress is okay, I think she got electrocuted on the way there. But thats not an excuse for the dress..

Cat Deeley in Charlie Brear at the WGSN Fashion Awards. This newly wed forgot to take off her wedding dress it seems,  although she does seem to be retaining the recently married glow.

Joan Smalls at the Victorias Secret After Party. I guess this model just decided instead of changing to just throw something over her undergarments and call it a night. I guess having the majority of the world watch you in your lingerie isn't that big of a deal.

How To Wear Animal Prints ( Tastefully)

Animal Prints: the trend that never goes out of style. Designers for years have been fascinated by animal prints, whether spotted on the runways or the streets, these prints can be found almost everywhere. However, this style of clothing must be worn with caution. It is fairly easy to come across as cheap or tawdry. Here are some easy ways to make sure you look more classy instead of trashy.

1.  No Prey Animals
Zebra and giraffe prints are hard to work with when it comes to clothing. Go for a safer printed accessory, such as a zebra scarf or a giraffe belt. Don't make the same mistakes as this woman...

2. Dont Mix 2 prints
AVOID MIXING PRINTS AT ALL COSTS. This is the number one rule of animal print fashion. There is a reason you will never a zebra and a cheetah coexisting peacefully in nature.. they don't go together! This applies to outfits, pick one print and stick with it! Also, If you are wearing a smaller version of a print, don't wear anything in that same print but in a larger scale. For example:

3. Opt for Accessories for a bold fashion statement
Wearing a full on animal printed piece can be risky. To ensure a chic look, go for some cute accessories instead like this cheetah print satchel and heels.

4.  Skip colorful animal prints
Unless you're going for a blast from the past, never wear colored animal prints, its tacky and cheap. For instance, these neon pink cheetah print shoes

5. No head to toe prints
We are humans, not animals. Therefore, we should not look like we are attempting to dress up as them. Like unfortunate Gwen Stefani below. Apparently she didn't get this message.

Now that I've covered the basic rules of animal print, here some people who got it right:

Miranda Kerr
Rihanna

Padma Langshi

Kate Moss

Get The Look

For a lot of people, celebrity style is what determines whats in and whats out. While there are no doubt some celebrities known more for their style than others, we still love to see what they wear. I included some of my favorite recent celeb outfits and how you can recreate the look for yourself in a chic and affordable way.

My ultimate style crush: Blake Lively. Looking super chic in Lanvin tuxedo pants, and a white  button down shirt paired with a statement necklace and snake skin clutch. If you personally don't have over a thousand dollars to blow on pants like these, why not try out the equally chic look below?

Jessica Alba's street style has always made me swoon, but this particular outfit is so simply chic, its impossible to not want to replicate. The pastel orange blazer with the white tucked in tank paired with dark wash skinnies and strappy silver heels is the epitome of chic street style.

Style queen of NYC, Olivia Palermo knows how to dress up jeans. These boot cut jeans  and chic black jacket paired with a diamond statement necklace and nude clutch is a simple elegant way to work the dressed up jeans look. Heres how you can do it as well:

Victorias Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio always gets it right. This bright pink collared button down with the  high waisted cream trousers are absolute perfection, and the black bag is a nice completing touch. Heres how to mimic this look:

Fashion Friday

So much fabulous fashion this week, It was so hard to choose! Take a look at this weeks best and worst celebrity fashion.

Best:
Taylor Swift at the 2012 CMA awards in a stunning Jenny Packham gown. No one does classy and beautiful quite like Ms. Swift.

Kellie Pickler also at the 2012 CMAs, wearing a Pamella Roland beaded bodice dress. As a sign of support  for her childhood friend who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, this songstress shaved her head in a sign of touching solidarity. Bold and beautiful Ms.Pickler, you look amazing.

Emily Blunt attending Harpers Bazaar "Woman of the Year Awards" in divine orange Alexander McQueen dress. This gorgeous stream line halter dress with a bejeweled neckline is to die for.

Nicole Scherzinger at the Pride of Britain awards wearing a black and lacy Bibi Bachtadze dress ... paired with Giuseppe Zanotti heels. This American lady was the leading attraction at this British award function, sorry Brits.

Oh my, Kelly Osbourne, how far you've come! Tears of pride were no doubt welling in everyone's eyes as the former hot mess stepped onto the carpet at the Cosmo Ultimate Style Award event. Her pale pastel rose dress matched with her signature lilac hair formed a look unique to Ms.Osbourne, yet stylish and elegant. Oh and did I mention she took home the  Cosmo style icon award as well?

Model Rosie Huntington Whitely makes the Best Dressed Fashion Friday list yet again!  This beauty arrived at the LACMA awards donning a vibrant sea foam green Gucci gown. With a polished up do and elegant air, Ms. Whitely stole the carpet scene.

Worst:

Olivia Munn at the Pink Party event in LA wearing a Valentino embroidered dress and Valentino studded shoes. Unfortunately this mixture of sweet and tough didn't work for the News Room Actress. The Easter bunny called, his wife wants her dress back.
Its outfits like this that make me wonder if Kesha utilizes the use of mirrors. Apparently not, as the singer arrived at the launch of her collaboration with Baby G watch designs. Is she aware that eyeshadow should be applied one eyes only?
Singer Emeli Sande at Harpers Bazaar Woman of the Year Awards wearing a printed Preen dress. While the star took home an award for music, she definitely didn't take any home for fashion.
Kim Kardashian, for gosh sakes, please stop wearing skin tight sheath dresses over and over again. This famous do-nothing wore her signature look to the Samsung Galaxy 2 launch event. Looking a bit stiff and stuffy, Kanye's boo thing needs a new look.

Oh my, where to start? Gemma Cairney at the Cosmo Woman of the Year Awards wearing her best smile, and worst dress. Unfortunately her endearing smile did little to distract us from the hideous bag and clownish dress. The shoes aren't bad, but paired with look, it's just not working out.
